Wagon Rides, April 2 – 30
There are FREE Wagon Rides on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during the month of April at the Pioneer Farm site from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
Spring Plant Sale, April 10 – May 9
Enjoy the Spring Plant Sale from April 10 – May 9. This once-a-year sale features a selection of gardening tools, books, pots, and other gardening goodies as well as plants and herbs grown at Mount Vernon. The Gardening Days shop is open rain or shine from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
Sheep Shearing Demonstration, May 1 – 30
The shearing of Mount Vernon's Hog Island sheep takes place Fridays through Sundays during the month of May from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM and from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM. Visitors can watch this beginning of the wool-making process with demonstrations at the George Washington Pioneer Farmer site.
Martha Washington’s 279th Birthday, June 2
June 2nd is the 279th birthday of Martha Washington! If your name is Martha or your birthday is on June 2nd, present your photo ID at Mount Vernon for FREE admission to Mount Vernon.
Meet the Father of Our Country, June 19 & 20
Meet the Father of Our Country on Father's Day weekend! General Washington will give a special performance, answer questions, and pose for photo opportunities.
An American Celebration at Mount Vernon, July 4
Independence Day, the birth of our nation, is celebrated at the home of George Washington, our first president, with a dazzling display of daytime fireworks. Spectacular smoke fireworks in patriotic colors will be fired over the Potomac River! There will also be an inspirational naturalization ceremony for 100 new citizens, military reenactments, a special wreathlaying ceremony, free birthday cake for all (while supplies last), and a visit from the first first couple, General and Mrs. Washington.
Colonial Market & Fair, September 18 & 19
This weekend Mount Vernon hosts the Colonial Market & Fair. Some of America's finest craftspeople demonstrate 18th-century crafts and sell traditional wares such as baskets, woodcarvings, tin & ironwork, leatherworkings, weavings, paper-cuttings, and furniture. The event also features lively 18th-century entertainment including music, fire-eating, sword-swallowing, puppet & magic shows, plus hearty specialty food for sale. NOTE: This weekend only - Photo Sightseeing Cruises, once at Mount Vernon, are free of charge. The Excursion trips to and from Mount Vernon are standard price.
